t i t l e: Musical Chairs
m e d i u m: school desk, office chair, recliner, church chair, car seat, bar stool, styrofoam heads, vinyl footprints

The piece explores the rotational and “by chance” adoption and assignment of identity represented in the context of the children’ game of musical chairs. The game is
used to reflect on the adoption of identity in the selected dialects of religion, work, education, socialization, domesticity, and mobility. Each chair represents a dialect and
the heads and footsteps form the loop which guides the participants around the chairs until they are cued to stop and compete for an open seat. The piece speaks to the
adoption of identity based on environment....location, audience, and event.
